The Castlegar Chamber of Commerce held their annual business awards last weekend.

Over 200 people representing 95 businesses attended the event held at the Castlegar Community Complex on Nov. 4 and 16 awards were given out.

Tammy Verigin-Burk, the Executive Director for Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the importance of business awards.

“Small businesses are the heartbeat of a community and without them a community can’t thrive,” she said.

Verigin-Burk also spoke to the thriving economy in Castlegar, mentioning the competition for commercial space in the city, she said, “we literally have only two places for lease in Castlegar of commercial retail space. We have a lineup of people that are looking to open up businesses in Castlegar.”

CJLY also interviewed one of the award winners: Solly Burk was one of two winners of the Best Home Based Business Award for his online fitness company and app Train With Solly.
