In Moncton, the Petitcodiac Causeway was been replaced with a bridge, and the river is restoring its tidal landscape. Closer to home, at the Tantramar River, plans have been released proposing a possible new dam structure across the mouth, to protect the Chignecto Isthmus from the threat of sea level rise. It\u2019s a perfect time to reflect on the history of the tidal marsh, and the structures that humans have used to change them over the centuries.<\/p>\n
The Tantramar Heritage Trust and Tidewater Books are teaming up tonight to offer Sackvillians a glimpse into that history with environmental historian Ronald Rudin, the author of Against the Tides: Reshaping Landscape and Community in Canada's Maritime Marshlands. In that book, Rudin tells the story of a seldom mentioned organization that played a large role in transforming the landscape in tidal regions around the Bay of Fundy: the Maritime Marshland Rehabilitation Administration.<\/p>\n
CHMA spoke with Rudin from Baie-Ste-Anne, where he is researching his next project.<\/p>\n
