Since this tragedy, monthly gatherings have formed at the waterfront in Kingston.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indigenous Community Development Coordinator with The Kingston Community Health Centres Grandmother Kathy Brant says, \u201cWhen we get together after a year of ceremonies, the gift from the first 215 children is we came together\u2026all the nations are here. We created this loving, beautiful community in that year. That\u2019s what we need to focus on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Individuals sat in front of a sacred fire for a \u201cletting go\u201d ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brant says, \u201cWe don\u2019t hang on to how they passed, we need to hang on to the positiveness that they brought by being recovered, \u2018letting go\u2019 of the tragedy and embracing what they gave us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brant says people are now listening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Indigenous people who survived those schools have been talking about it since they came home..People knew they were there, no one listened until now\u2026Everybody got quiet during COVID\u2026 It was the absolute best time to get everyone to listen, another gift from the children.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The monthly gatherings are expected to continue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the CFRC story below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just over a year has passed since the remains of 215 Indigenous children buried at a former residential school in British Columbia were recovered.
