The department has been\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Bristol-Fire-Department-fundraising-for-rescue-boat\">fundraising<\/a>\u00a0for the project since last summer, and received numerous donations from\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Bristol-Fire-Department-receives-sizable-donation-to-rescue-boat-fund\">local businesses<\/a>\u00a0and community members.<\/p>\n<p>The boat\u2019s manufacturer, Christian Larouche of Liberty Boats, was on hand for the occasion and explained the advantages of the inflatable craft that they had purchased. He explained that the boat is very light and the inflatable pontoons are separated into six independent compartments, so even if one is punctured it will still float.<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-96696-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Clip-Christian-Larouche-Bristol-rescue-boat.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Clip-Christian-Larouche-Bristol-rescue-boat.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Clip-Christian-Larouche-Bristol-rescue-boat.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>Chief Kevin Kluke explained that the next closest department with a rescue boat is Mansfield-et-Pontefract (roughly 50 km up the road), meaning that in the past they\u2019ve had to use private boats to conduct water rescues. He said that they consulted other departments in the area, including the Ottawa Fire Department detachment across the river in Fitzroy Harbour, to make sure that the new craft would meet their needs.
