CHIP 101.9 spoke with the party\u2019s spokesperson, Colin Standish, to discuss its origins, platform and strategy for the race this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Standish also heads the\u00a0<a class=\"spip_out\" href=\"https:\/\/protectourrights.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener\">Task Force on Linguistic Policy<\/a>, a language advocacy group that sprang up in the wake of Bill 96, Quebec\u2019s overhaul of the province\u2019s language laws. Minority rights and language issues feature heavily in the party\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLinguistic, educational, and religious rights are under attack. Since the election of the Coalition Avenir Qu\u00e9bec in 2018, we have seen unjust laws proposed or adopted: Bill 21, Bill 40, and Bill 96,\u201d the statement on the party\u2019s website reads.<\/p>\n<p>Standish said that he was disappointed in the way the political parties in Quebec have been amending and discussing this piece of legislation, and singled out the Quebec Liberals for their controversial amendment adding three core French courses for English C\u00e9gep students, which they\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/quebec-liberals-reverse-course-on-their-own-bill-96-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subsequently tried to walk back<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-92698-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Colin-Standish-Bill-96.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Colin-Standish-Bill-96.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Colin-Standish-Bill-96.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>The party is not alone in challenging the \u201cBig 4\u201d mainstream political parties in the National Assembly, as earlier this week former Montreal mayoral candidate Balarama Holness launched his own party, Mouvement Qu\u00e9bec. In addition, the previously fringe Conservative Party of Quebec has seen a recent surge in the polls under the leadership of \u00c9ric Duhaime. When asked why Quebecers seem to be seeking out alternatives, Standish said that there\u2019s a big \u201cvoid\u201d when it comes to political options in Quebec.<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-92698-2\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Colin-Standish-alternative-party.mp3?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Colin-Standish-alternative-party.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Colin-Standish-alternative-party.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>Standish said that they had a \u201cprovince-wide, 125 riding strategy\u201d but would be focusing their efforts on certain seats they believe are winnable, specifically in Montreal, the Eastern Townships and west Quebec.
