{"id":91581,"date":"2022-04-19T23:29:42","date_gmt":"2022-04-20T03:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=91581"},"modified":"2022-04-20T17:39:17","modified_gmt":"2022-04-20T21:39:17","slug":"you-can-stand-out-on-the-trans-canada-with-your-thumb-out-higgs-government-attracts-criticism-over-transit-spending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/you-can-stand-out-on-the-trans-canada-with-your-thumb-out-higgs-government-attracts-criticism-over-transit-spending\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018You can stand out on the Trans-Canada with your thumb out\u2019: Higgs government attracts criticism over transit spending"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public transportation systems around the world have been rocked COVID-19, and t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he pandemic saw a major blow to ridership and revenues at Codiac Transpo, the municipal bus system in Greater Moncton.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public transportation advocates have criticized the Higgs government for walking away from federal public transit funding earlier in the pandemic, while<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the province has offered financial support to the privately-owned Maritime Bus service.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, the province announced it had allocated $400,000 to the private operator to help the company cover losses during the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s on top of $720,000 the company received last year to maintain Maritime Bus routes in northern New Brunswick.
