{"id":91553,"date":"2022-04-19T15:55:54","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T19:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=91553"},"modified":"2022-04-20T17:41:38","modified_gmt":"2022-04-20T21:41:38","slug":"cegep-heritage-college-dg-disappointed-with-amendments-to-bill-96","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/cegep-heritage-college-dg-disappointed-with-amendments-to-bill-96\/","title":{"rendered":"C\u00e9gep Heritage College DG \u201cdisappointed\u201d with amendments to Bill 96"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the CAQ government\u2019s overhaul of the province\u2019 s language laws, known as Bill 96, being debated in the National Assembly, CHIP 101.9 spoke with Gordon McIvor, director general of C\u00e9gep Heritage College to discuss some of the ways that this mammoth piece of legislation will affect Quebec\u2019s students.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that despite he and his colleagues putting forward suggestions and concerns late last year, they weren\u2019t consulted on some of the big amendments that have been added earlier this year. One of the most controversial of these changes, in regards to English C\u00e9geps, is that anglophone students would be required to take three courses taught in French, in addition to the French-language courses that are already mandatory.<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-91553-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Gordon-McIvor-concerns-raised.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Gordon-McIvor-concerns-raised.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Gordon-McIvor-concerns-raised.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>McIvor said that he supports improving French language education in the province, but said that it\u2019s problematic when experts in the field are left out of the discussions with government.<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-91553-2\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Gordon-McIvor-no-consultation.mp3?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Gordon-McIvor-no-consultation.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Clip-Gordon-McIvor-no-consultation.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>McIvor encouraged citizens to do their research on Bill 96 and the slew of amendments that have been added over the past months to see how it will impact their lives.
