{"id":90638,"date":"2022-04-11T18:52:15","date_gmt":"2022-04-11T22:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=90638"},"modified":"2022-04-11T18:52:15","modified_gmt":"2022-04-11T22:52:15","slug":"neighbourhood-wildfire-threat-assessment-program-a-hit-on-cortes-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/neighbourhood-wildfire-threat-assessment-program-a-hit-on-cortes-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbourhood Wildfire Threat Assessment program a hit on Cortes Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This past week, households on Cortes Island received a flyer in their mailbox encouraging homeowners to organize and sign up for a free <a href=\"https:\/\/srd.ca\/neighbourhood-wrr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neighbourhood Wildfire Threat Assessment<\/a> from a certified FireSmart professional this spring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Shaun Koopman, Protective Services Coordinator for the Strathcona Regional District, has been overwhelmed by the positive Cortes community response, with some neighbourhoods already submitting their application, and several more promising to get theirs in before the deadline at the end of May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Each application must have anywhere from three to 15 properties signed up, though Koopman says he would likely approve more per application. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The assessment also includes individual FireSmart property assessments for all properties in the application. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">The FireSmart property assessment can help residents become eligible for rebates to complete the work advised in the assessment, if there is a Firesmart Rebate program active in the community.\u00a0 The rebate program has already been offered in Gold River, Sayward and Zeballos.
