{"id":89287,"date":"2022-03-08T15:09:21","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T20:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=89287"},"modified":"2022-03-31T16:33:15","modified_gmt":"2022-03-31T20:33:15","slug":"district-of-kitimats-water-plant-will-ensure-fewer-advisories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/district-of-kitimats-water-plant-will-ensure-fewer-advisories\/","title":{"rendered":"District of Kitimat&#8217;s water plant will ensure fewer advisories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth announced at the March 2022 District of Kitimat council meeting that the town is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kitimatdistrict\/videos\/384530816531676\">addressing the need for a new water system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to meet modern regulatory requirements - and in doing so prevent future water quality advisories - they will be upgrading the current water system in a number of ways: water conditioning, direct sand filtration, and UV disinfection.<\/p>\n<p>The focus this year is to complete the design and apply for a construction permit from Northern Health. Meanwhile, a pilot plant study, involving a smaller version of the proposed treatment system, will run over the next five months for our utilities crew to test a variety of products to confirm the proposed treatment design.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot plant arrived in Kitimat early in March and is located beside one of the water pumphouses.<\/p>\n<p>Construction and commissioning of the new treatment system is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>To fund this project\u2019s estimated $8.25 million cost, the District has applied for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program\u2019s Green Infrastructure \u2013 Environmental Quality grant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth announced at the March 2022 District of Kitimat council meeting that the town is addressing the need for a new water system.
