{"id":87348,"date":"2022-03-21T16:49:52","date_gmt":"2022-03-21T20:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=87348"},"modified":"2022-03-22T01:50:21","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T05:50:21","slug":"an-outpouring-of-education-from-quadra-islands-water-security-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/an-outpouring-of-education-from-quadra-islands-water-security-team\/","title":{"rendered":"An outpouring of education from Quadra Island&#8217;s Water Security Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Water Security Team, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quadraican.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quadra Island\u2019s Climate Action Network<\/a> (Quadra ICAN), is stepping up its offerings of information, research and implementation of projects vital to the future of water.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Emeritus professor and stone sculptor <a href=\"https:\/\/leegass.com\/\">Lee Gass<\/a>, who got involved with the Water Security initiatives at a friend\u2019s urging last fall, said that his first realization was how much there is still to learn. He researched and wrote<i>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leegass.com\/a-short-course-on-groundwater-and-aquifers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Short Course on Groundwater and Aquifers<\/a><\/i> that is now part of the Water Security Team's resource library.<\/p>\n<p>The team hosts<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> two weekly information tables: one is in front of the Quathiaski Cove grocery store on Fridays 2-4 p.m. Recently, they've added another table on Wednesdays 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Heriot Bay store. Image courtesy of Quadra ICAN's Water Security Team.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wellstein is in charge of selling rainwater storage tanks, which <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">have a capacity of 1,000 litres and are made of food-grade metal-reinforced plastic. The team sells them equal to their own cost at $210 each. Interested islanders can contact Kris Wellstein via <\/span>250-202-4496 or kwequestrian@gmail.com.<\/p>\n<p>Two demo sites are planned at the former credit union in <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quathiaski Cove as well as Quadra Builders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The team works with experts, both local and further afield.
