{"id":86676,"date":"2022-03-16T16:44:13","date_gmt":"2022-03-16T20:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=86676"},"modified":"2022-03-16T16:44:13","modified_gmt":"2022-03-16T20:44:13","slug":"cortes-food-co-op-updates-by-laws-in-preparation-for-agm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/cortes-food-co-op-updates-by-laws-in-preparation-for-agm\/","title":{"rendered":"Cortes Food Co-op updates by-laws in preparation for AGM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A unanimous vote by the attendees of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cortescoop.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cortes Natural Food Co-op<\/a>'s general meeting approved several changes to the organization's by-laws on Tues, Mar. 15.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The changes included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>allowing a board member to reapply for election after serving 6 consecutive years<\/li>\n<li>acknowledging that the Co-op is a members' co-op and does not require 50 percent of directors to be employees<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">requiring 10 (instead of 5) member signatures to appeal a board decision\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first point was the most significant and generated discussion around how to best reword the update.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current Chair of the Board Amy Robertson said that for one, there are many organizations on the island competing for board members. Additionally, once a director is well versed in the workings of the Co-op, it is to everyone\u2019s advantage to have a dedicated person continue in their position.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Co-op\u2019s new General Manager Mary Lavelle expressed relief that there would be less turnover of senior board members at the upcoming AGM in June.
