The Old Schoolhouse Art Gallery<\/a> on rural Cortes Island has been attracting visitors during its summer season for nearly 25 years. With recently acquired non-profit status, it now seeks a manager<\/a> to move forward. Applications are being accepted until March 15th.<\/p>\n

Long-time director Kristen Schofield-Sweet says the organization will be staging its first annual general meting on June 5th. As a non-profit society, the gallery now has access to funding streams, giving it the opportunity to hire a manager with experience in the arts who can provide needed continuity.<\/p>\n

The above plaque beside the gallery's entrance cites the known history of the 20th century structure, but the date it was constructed and history prior to arriving on Cortes Island was unclear prior to deadline.<\/p>\n

Well maintained, it's highly visible on the main road near the Whaletown ferry terminal and is regarded by locals as iconic.<\/p>\n

Schofield-Sweet notes the progressive evolution of the gallery over time, as well as the consistent support it's received from Cortes Island's 1,000 year-round residents.<\/p>\n
