Photo courtesy of George Sirk.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The count, a global day of citizen science, is overseen by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Audubon Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the United States, and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cortesmuseum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cortes Museum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has been coordinating it locally for two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Besides the main count day, people can report rare bird sightings in what's called the \"count week\" surrounding the officially designated 24-hour event. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year, these sightings included a snow goose, a flock of Bohemian waxwings, and a rough-legged hawk, among others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_82987\" style=\"width: 491px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"dt-pswp-item\" href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/DSC05495.jpeg\" data-dt-img-description=\"Anna's hummingbird in torpor due to cold weather.
