{"id":82549,"date":"2022-02-17T15:24:23","date_gmt":"2022-02-17T20:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=82549"},"modified":"2022-02-17T15:24:23","modified_gmt":"2022-02-17T20:24:23","slug":"sackville-council-turns-down-two-motions-to-slow-down-amalgamation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/sackville-council-turns-down-two-motions-to-slow-down-amalgamation\/","title":{"rendered":"Sackville council turns down two motions to slow down amalgamation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a tie-breaking vote Monday night, Mayor Shawn Mesheau rejected a motion requesting more time and engagement in the amalgamation process for Sackville, Dorchester and three surrounding areas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Council first defeated a motion from Bill Evans to outright boycott the amalgamation proceedings, but not without some dramatics.\u00a0 CAO Jamie Burke told council that the motion was illegal, and that he could not be forced to break the law.\u00a0 Councillor Matt Estabrooks accused Evans of throwing staff and their careers under the bus.\u00a0 Evans rebutted that there was nothing illegal in his motion, but it was defeated, 7 to 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sabine Dietz then made her motion asking for eight changes to the amalgamation process. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dietz had the support of three other councillors, Bill Evans, Michael Tower, and Ken Hicks.\u00a0 But Allison Butcher, Bruce Phinney, Matt Estabrooks and Deputy Mayor Andrew Black voted against her motion, even after amendments to soften its tone.
