{"id":81430,"date":"2021-12-18T09:16:49","date_gmt":"2021-12-18T14:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=81430"},"modified":"2022-02-10T13:42:59","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T18:42:59","slug":"kitimat-mayor-germuth-is-hopeful-for-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/kitimat-mayor-germuth-is-hopeful-for-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Kitimat Mayor Germuth is hopeful for 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Upon reflection, Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth is thankful to his community for \"working together\" during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>CICK News reported earlier in the year on the vaccination rates in communities across the north and Kitimat was one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/northern-health-anomaly-in-kitimat-vax-numbers\/\">highest-ranked vaccinated communities in all of British Columbia<\/a>, not just the north.<\/p>\n<p>Kitimat is a small community near the coast of northern British Columbia with over 1000 people employed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riotinto.com\/products\/Aluminium\">aluminium<\/a> smelter and the Kemano Powerhouse, a hydropower facility supplied by the Nechako reservoir. The Haisla Nation, an Indigenous community with land title over the village of Kitimaat is a successful and thriving community for which Kitimat (the town) often partner with on economic development projects.<\/p>\n<p>On the list of positive outcomes in 2021, Mayor Germuth listed the new recycling program, community recreation updates, an active transportation plan, and the community river cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Germuth thanked many people in his 2021 reflection statement including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitimat.ca\/en\/our-community\/fire-and-rescue.aspx\">Kitimat Fire Chief Trent Bossence<\/a> for his organized and easily-accessible vaccination rollout, for which he states was a \"major contributor\" to Kitimat's vaccination rates.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to Pam Haasen's full interview with Mayor Germuth below.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upon reflection, Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth is thankful to his community for &#8220;working together&#8221; during the COVID-19 pandemic.
