{"id":81222,"date":"2022-02-10T13:06:59","date_gmt":"2022-02-10T18:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=81222"},"modified":"2022-02-15T13:04:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-15T18:04:32","slug":"indigenous-owned-wilderness-resort-poised-for-a-strong-second-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/indigenous-owned-wilderness-resort-poised-for-a-strong-second-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous-owned wilderness resort poised for a strong second year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.klahooseresort.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Klahoose Wilderness Resort<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Toba Inlet, BC, is in the process of converting to fully sustainable energy along with other improvements, among high demand for its tourism packages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bruno Pereira, general manager of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qxmc.org\/\">Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation<\/a> (QXMC), which oversees economic development for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klahoose.org\/\">Klahoose First Nation<\/a>, said the grant from the provincial First Nation Clean Energy Business Fund will help improve both capture and storage of energy harvested from the nearby creek.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">QXMC acquired the resort in October 2020, then purchased Gorge Harbour Marina Resort on Cortes Island a year later in October 2021. Both are booking fast for 2022 and beyond. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Klahoose Chief Kevin Peacey, who is the chair on the board of directors for QXMC, said, \"the phone is starting to ring off the hook,\" thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qxmc.org\/news-and-releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ongoing publicity<\/a> for the wilderness resort.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_81243\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"dt-pswp-item\" href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/2F83AE06-8835-45E2-9FEC-9F19A88D34C5.jpeg\" data-dt-img-description=\"The first glimpse of the Klahoose Wilderness Resort when arriving by boat.
