{"id":79306,"date":"2022-01-27T16:12:32","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T21:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=79306"},"modified":"2022-01-28T13:51:46","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T18:51:46","slug":"pontiac-warden-toller-talks-obstetrics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/pontiac-warden-toller-talks-obstetrics\/","title":{"rendered":"Warden Toller talks obstetrics in the Pontiac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the two-year anniversary of the closure of the obstetrics department at the Pontiac Hospital fast approaching, CHIP spoke with Pontiac Warden Jane Toller to discuss the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Following\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Another-interruption-in-obstetrics-scheduled-for-this-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">several<\/a>\u00a0breaches in service in\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/No-obstetrics-service-in-Shawville-for-the-next-21-days\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Another-interruption-in-obstetrics-at-the-Shawville-Hospital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early 2020<\/a>, regional health authority CISSSO announced the decision on Feb. 21, 2020 to \u201ctemporarily\u201d close the department until September of that year. Just weeks later, the province was hit by the pandemic and the deadline came and went. The reason cited for the closure was due to a lack of nursing staff, however, several doctors trained in obstetrics are also required.<\/p>\n<p>Spokespeople for the CISSSO have stated that they are working to restore the service, even going so far as to say it\u2019s their top priority after COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Following the\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Reactions-to-the-decision-of-the-CISSS-de-l-Outaouais-to-close-the-obstetrics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement of the department\u2019s closure<\/a>\u00a0the MRC formed a committee to look at solutions to the issue. Toller said that they have discussed many ways to address the lack of staff, but an increase in nurse salaries in order to compete with Ontario is the primary change that they\u2019re advocating for.<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-79306-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Clip-Jane-Toller-nurse-salaries.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Clip-Jane-Toller-nurse-salaries.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Clip-Jane-Toller-nurse-salaries.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>Toller said that CISSSO\u2019s Director General Jos\u00e9e Filion had told her that after the pandemic, the re-opening of the department was her top priority.
