{"id":78285,"date":"2022-01-21T09:07:01","date_gmt":"2022-01-21T14:07:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=78285"},"modified":"2022-01-21T09:07:01","modified_gmt":"2022-01-21T14:07:01","slug":"ns-schools-wont-release-covid-cases-in-classes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/ns-schools-wont-release-covid-cases-in-classes\/","title":{"rendered":"NS schools won\u2019t release COVID cases in classes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Robert Strang says individual parents and teachers can choose to share their own COVID status but schools will not distribute that information to protect the privacy of the people involved.<\/p>\n<p>Strang says the omicron variant is so widespread that there is little value in providing contract tracing and everyone should act as if they could be infected at any time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message for everybody is get vaccinated, follow all the personal protective measures, especially and if you\u2019re sick with new cold and flu-like symptoms stay home,\u201d said Strang. \u201cThat message doesn\u2019t change just because somebody has been a close contact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parents groups are concerned school principals are forbidden to release information about COVID cases in classrooms even if parents consent.<\/p>\n<p>At Wednesday\u2019s COVID briefing Strang said there is no gag order preventing principals from sharing that information but follow up correspondence with the South Shore Regional Centre for Education, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Department of Health and Wellness all confirm parents, students and staff can self-report cases but school administration are not permitted to release that information citing privacy concerns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-mail:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:edhalversonnews@gmail.com\">edhalversonnews@gmail.com<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Twitter: @edwardhalverson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>To listen to the full broadcast of this story, press play below.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Robert Strang says individual parents and teachers can choose to share their own COVID status but schools will not distribute that information to protect the privacy of the people involved.
