{"id":77466,"date":"2022-01-17T19:04:56","date_gmt":"2022-01-18T00:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=77466"},"modified":"2022-01-17T19:04:56","modified_gmt":"2022-01-18T00:04:56","slug":"cortes-island-faces-housing-listing-shortage-while-bc-supply-at-an-all-time-low","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/cortes-island-faces-housing-listing-shortage-while-bc-supply-at-an-all-time-low\/","title":{"rendered":"Cortes Island faces housing listing shortage while BC supply at an all-time low"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcrea.bc.ca\/economics\/a-record-year-for-the-bc-housing-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A recent BC Real Estate Association report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> says 2021 was a record year for sales in the BC housing market, while 2022 begins with the lowest number of listings on record. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Cortes Island, local resident realtor Martha Abelson, who has 17 years experience, says there are only four active listings, fewer than half the average for this time of year. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She believes the pandemic is contributing to the housing supply shortage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meantime, the <a href=\"https:\/\/info.bcassessment.ca\/news\/Pages\/Vancouver-Island-2022-Property-Assessments-in-the-Mail.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BC Assessment Authority<\/a> has just issued property owners their annual assessments. On Cortes Island, the average increase in value is 40%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the increase in assessed values, Abelson cautions property owners not to assume their property taxes will rise by a corresponding amount. She says the actual rate won\u2019t be known until March 31.
