{"id":75538,"date":"2021-12-30T07:00:58","date_gmt":"2021-12-30T12:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=75538"},"modified":"2021-12-31T11:06:33","modified_gmt":"2021-12-31T16:06:33","slug":"ottawa-senators-sign-bostons-tyler-boucher-to-three-year-entry-level-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/ottawa-senators-sign-bostons-tyler-boucher-to-three-year-entry-level-contract\/","title":{"rendered":"Ottawa Senators sign Boston&#8217;s Tyler Boucher to three-year, entry-level contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ottawa Senators signed Tyler Boucher to a three-year entry-level contract on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/senators\/news\/senators-sign-forward-tyler-boucher-to-a-three-year-entry-level-contract\/c-329249448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Sens announced that Boucher was contracted after being selected as their first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sens General Manager Pierre Dorion said in the press release that Boucher, son of former NHL goalie Brian Boucher, is a player to be reckoned with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe're pleased to have Tyler under contract,\" says Dorion. \"He's a power forward who plays a heavy, physical game. He's driven, is strong with the puck, has a big shot and goes hard to the net. His good hands in tight areas will be of particular benefit to him going forward. We expect him to be an important part of this team's future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 18-year-old Haddonfield, N.J. native was in the middle of his first season with the Boston University Terriers. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eliteprospects.com\/player\/478374\/tyler-boucher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the youngest players<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Boucher played in 17 of 18 games this season, scoring two goals and one assist.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_75546\" style=\"width: 418px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75546\" class=\" wp-image-75546\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/tyler_boucher_medium.png\" alt=\"A boy wearing a black suit jacket over a white collared shirt with a red tie sits against a marbled grey background, looking into the camera.\" width=\"408\" height=\"408\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-75546\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">18-year-old Tyler Boucher, above, was the Sens' first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. Photo by USA National Hockey League.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boucher was the tenth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and is expected to play for the OHL\u2019s Ottawa 67\u2019s come January.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorion says the young player struggled at the college level, but this is a chance for him to play with teammates his own age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt's very tough for a lot of freshmen in college,\u201d says Dorion. \u201cA lot of times you're playing against guys that are 22, 23 years old, they're physically so much more mature than you are, even though Tyler physically is very mature. I think a lot of times the college mantra is that they give a lot of ice time and opportunities and power plays\u2026 to juniors and seniors. And Tyler was a freshman this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorion says Boucher started thinking about leaving school about a month ago. According to him, 67\u2019s Coach David Cameron and Sens\u2019 Development Coach Shean Donovan were consulted during conversations with Boucher concerning his athletic future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn early December [we] ended up talking with his agent, his family advisor at the time, and they just felt that\u2026 going the 67\u2019s route was the best option,\u201d says Dorion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boucher tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, and is tentatively assigned to the Sens\u2019 affiliate AHL team in Belleville until Jan. 6, after which he will be permitted to enter Canada. Boucher will then be assigned to the Ottawa 67\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorion says the reason for the temporary assignment was so Boucher would have an opportunity to play games \u201cin case the OHL shuts down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NHL has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhlpa.com\/news\/1-22238\/nhl-nhlpa-agree-to-temporary-changes-to-cba-including-reintroduction-of-taxi-squads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">postponed several games<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this month due to the reintroduction of capacity limits in some Canadian cities following the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. On Sunday, they announced the reintroduction of \u201ctaxi squads,\u201d which permit each team to keep an emergency lineup of up to six players in case any of the players in the existing lineup tests positive for COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sens are set to play their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nhl\/teams\/OTT\/ottawa-senators\/schedule\/regular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">last game of the year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Canadian Tire Centre on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the CHUO News update below:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ottawa Senators signed Tyler Boucher to a three-year entry-level contract on Tuesday.
