{"id":69929,"date":"2021-11-18T16:38:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-18T21:38:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=69929"},"modified":"2021-11-19T16:58:11","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T21:58:11","slug":"metis-artists-celebrate-metis-week-with-their-artwork-at-st-albert-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/metis-artists-celebrate-metis-week-with-their-artwork-at-st-albert-place\/","title":{"rendered":"M\u00e9tis artists celebrate M\u00e9tis Week with their work at St. Albert Place"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mus\u00e9e H\u00e9ritage Museum at St. Albert Place is featuring the work of three M\u00e9tis artists in their Education Space\u2014Christi Belcourt, Leah Dorian and Reanna Lorraine Savard\u2014until the end of the month in honour of M\u00e9tis Week (Nov.14-20)<\/p>\n<p>One of the featured artists, Reanna Lorraine Savard, is from amiskwaci\u2019w\u00e2skahikan and is an art teacher.<\/p>\n<p>Savard\u2019s art in the exhibit at the museum is called \u201cCelina.\u201d She is thrilled to have her artwork displayed alongside renowned artist Christi Belcourt.<\/p>\n<p>Savard works in acrylic, ink, and makes paper sculptures. She says she likes to use her art to educate others on Indigenous historical and contemporary issues, all while sharing the beauty that surrounds the culture, like M\u00e9tis floral beadwork. By using contemporary mediums to execute a modern take on traditional beadwork, she believes M\u00e9tis dot art reflects her goal visually.<\/p>\n<p>Savard adds that\u00a0 she is proud to teach Indigenous students about art.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are always inspiring me. [I\u2019ll] give them directions\u2014or some type of directions or something\u2014and they\u2019ll just take it and run with it. And I\u2019m so amazed with what they do because I never thought to use that medium that way, or I never thought to look at it that way,\u201d she said. \u201cSo they\u2019re always challenging me and just showing me new ways to do things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Celina Loyer, Aboriginal Programmer for the Mus\u00e9e H\u00e9ritage Museum, encourages people to attend any M\u00e9tis events this week. Loyer is Cree\/M\u00e9tis from Michel Band and Saddle Lake First Nation.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
