{"id":69020,"date":"2021-11-14T19:51:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T00:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=69020"},"modified":"2021-11-14T19:51:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T00:51:27","slug":"youth-programming-asks-for-financial-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/youth-programming-asks-for-financial-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth programming asks for financial support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortesfamily.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cortes Community Health Association<\/a> (CCHA) just released an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortesisland.com\/tideline\/show14071a\/CCHA_Youth_Programs_could_really_use_some_help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">appeal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to the island community for monetary donations, seeking a total of $5,000 to continue its after-school programming for kids aged 7-17.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jodi Peters, youth programs manager for CCHA, explained that the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the programs outdoors year-round, which has meant hiring additional staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fortunately, there have also been significant benefits to having an extra adult on hand, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as well as taking the groups outdoors, rain or shine. The children have flourished with extra adult attention and the expansive space to vent their pent-up energy after a long day of school, Peters said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But she also noticed that attendance dropped slightly, and this may be due to some families not having access to weatherproof gear to outfit their kids for year-round outdoor activities. They are broken down into four sections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kids in action for those aged 7-9<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adventures in Leadership for those aged 10-12<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teen Szene for those aged 13-17<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cougar Sports for those aged 7-15<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year CCHA initiatives created some very special opportunities for children and youth by partnering with <a href=\"https:\/\/corteskayaks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cortes Kayaks<\/a> and MicroGrants for Neighbours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortesfamily.ca\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This page<\/a> on the CCHA website lists all the ways to donate, and tax receipts can be provided.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to the interview with Jodi Peters below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cortes Community Health Association (CCHA) just released an appeal to the island community for monetary donations, seeking a total of $5,000 to continue its after-school programming for kids aged 7-17.
