Mayer has resided in the small municipality for all his 58 years, and served as a councillor for more than 20 years before becoming mayor for the past eight. Like 2017, he will face off in this election against former mayor Joseph Squitti, whom he beat four years ago with 54 per cent of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Mayer said that he\u2019s running again because he enjoys the work and added that he\u2019d like to continue to keep taxes down because of the number of seniors in the community that live on fixed incomes:<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-67106-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Clip-Carl-Mayer-reason-for-running.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Clip-Carl-Mayer-reason-for-running.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Clip-Carl-Mayer-reason-for-running.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>When asked about council\u2019s accomplishments over the past term, Mayer said that this year alone, they used $600,000 from their share of gas tax revenues to put around 1,800 loads of gravel on the community\u2019s roads. He also spoke highly of the children\u2019s camp that they hosted in the summer:<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-67106-2\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Clip-Carl-Mayer-accomplishments.mp3?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Clip-Carl-Mayer-accomplishments.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Clip-Carl-Mayer-accomplishments.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>Mayer said that if he\u2019s elected for another term, he would continue to work towards a splash pad for the local park.
