{"id":67060,"date":"2021-11-01T12:48:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T16:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=67060"},"modified":"2021-11-02T10:27:15","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T14:27:15","slug":"chamber-raising-the-profile-of-local-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/chamber-raising-the-profile-of-local-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"Chamber raising the profile of local businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South Queens Chamber of Commerce is dusting off an old idea in the hopes of bringing more focus to the current members.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of small business week, Executive Director Heather Kelly began posting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/South-Queens-Chamber-of-Commerce-191426127877\">profiles of small business owners to Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly says the profiles were part of a photo project completed ten years ago by Katy Hopkins and Stephen Cooper to showcase some of the businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of these businesses are, basically, still operating in Queens County, which I thought was really great too,\u201d said Kelly. \u201cThe longevity of it all was a really great piece to highlight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Until recently, the photos occupied the walls of South Shore Opportunities office.<\/p>\n<p>When that organization downsized their space, the pictures found a new home with the Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly says most of the businesses she profiled aren\u2019t high visibility, main street style enterprises.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_67069\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67069\" class=\"wp-image-67069 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Heather-Kelly-Oct-27-21-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"A woman wearing glasses, stands in front of a menu board in a cafe\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Heather-Kelly-Oct-27-21-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Heather-Kelly-Oct-27-21-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Heather-Kelly-Oct-27-21-286x215.jpg 286w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Heather-Kelly-Oct-27-21.jpg 1511w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-67069\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">South Queens Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Heather Kelly. Photo by Ed Halverson.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>They\u2019re people who have carved a niche in the market and could work from anywhere and choose Queens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just goes to show, you know, being able to work here in Queens County, work remotely, work from home, that sort of thing and they all love doing business here.
