Outgoing Mayor Jim Gibson\u00a0<a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Jim-Gibson-steps-back-after-12-years-as-mayor\" rel=\"external\">decided to step back<\/a>\u00a0from public life after 12 years at the helm of the council.<\/p>\n<p>Doris Larochelle served for a term as councillor in the municipality and said that she hopes to work together with residents to make \u201cthe Swisha,\u201d as it\u2019s referred to by locals, a better place.<\/p>\n<p>She said that if she\u2019s elected, the townspeople will have more of a say in what goes on at council:<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-66684-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Clip-Doris-Larochelle-reason-for-running.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Clip-Doris-Larochelle-reason-for-running.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Clip-Doris-Larochelle-reason-for-running.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>She said that if elected, she wants to prioritize work on two high-traffic sections of road:<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-66684-2\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Clip-Doris-Larochelle-roads.mp3?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Clip-Doris-Larochelle-roads.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Clip-Doris-Larochelle-roads.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>The small island community is located roughly 100 km from the rest of the MRC and is only accessible via Ontario. Emergency services, like health care and firefighting are handled through agreements with jurisdictions in Ontario, but everything from police services to driver\u2019s license renewals require a 2-hour trip to or from Campbell\u2019s Bay.
