Oct. 22nd is a national day of protest to STOP Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation. It has been organized for 25 years, beginning back in 1996 with events taking place each year across North America.<\/p>\n

Today on the show, reporter John Zee speaks with Fraser MacPherson, a registered nurse and organizer with the Defund 604 Network & Care Not Cops. Defund 604 is a collective that aims to defund and abolish the Police in Vancouver, and Care Not Cops is a combined group of health care workers and practitioners that was formed to reduce the violence in policing and build up community care.<\/p>\n

Weaved into their conversation are live recordings of activists, speakers & musicians from the #JusticeForJared, a gathering taking place on Oct. 22nd at Oppenheimer Park in the DTES. This event, hosted by Defund 604, was created in memory of Jared Lowndes, a man from the Wet'suwet'en Nation killed on July 8 this year by the RCMP in Campbell River.<\/p>\n

Together, MacPherson and John Zee discuss the case and the significance of commemorating it on Oct. 22nd<\/p>\n
