{"id":65822,"date":"2021-10-21T14:30:10","date_gmt":"2021-10-21T18:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=65822"},"modified":"2021-10-28T16:40:01","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T20:40:01","slug":"vancouvers-downtown-eastside-heart-of-the-city-festival-belongs-to-the-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/vancouvers-downtown-eastside-heart-of-the-city-festival-belongs-to-the-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver&#8217;s Downtown Eastside&#8217;s Heart of the City Festival celebrates 18th season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Founded in 2004, Vancouver's Heart of the City festival is celebrating its 18th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme, \u201cStories We Need to Hear,\u201d refers to the Downtown Eastside, the stigma the community still faces, and the stories it, \u201cneeds to tell about its experience and individuals within the community...and we need to hear,\u201d says Terry Hunter, artistic producer of the event.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 events are planned with more than 1,000 participants and most are free to attend. With the pandemic, many events can be either enjoyed in-person or online from the comfort of home. Photo courtesy of Heart of the City.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the festival, co-founders of Vancouver Moving Theatre (1983) and Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival (2004) Hunter and his partner Savannah Walling will be celebrating their personal and professional 50 Years of Creative Collaboration with an online event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo go through our journey to talk, to show photos and share stories and memories of those times...it\u2019s been an incredible journey,\" Hunter said.<\/p>\n<p>The Heart of the City Festival runs from Oct. 27 to Nov. 7.
