Premier Blaine Higgs and Dr. Jennifer Russell made the announcement in a news conference on Thursday afternoon. Along with extending the restrictions for Zone 1 and other parts of the province, Higgs announced two more deaths from COVID-19 in the province, bringing the death toll to 101, the highest of the Atlantic Provinces. Nova Scotia has the next highest death toll, at 98.<\/p>\n<h2>Alexopoulos takes on sexual violence prevention at Mount A<\/h2>\n<p>Mount Allison has hired a new Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Co-ordinator. Tasia Alexopoulos has taken on the role, working out of the Wellness Centre, on the ground floor of the student centre on York Street. Alexopoulos holds a PhD in Gender Studies, and has experience in community organizations focussed on sexual health and gender equity. She\u2019s also taught at Mount Allison, and other universities.<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Anne Comfort says Alexopolous will, \u201cplay a leadership role in educational and prevention programming and training for Mount Allison students, faculty, and staff in this important area.\u201d The position was developed as part of a review of Mount Allison sexual violence policies and procedures taken on after major protests on campus last fall.<\/p>\n<h2>Charles Beaver on boosters, third shots, and the timeline for a kids vaccine<\/h2>\n<p>Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been available for people in long term care homes for two weeks now. This Monday, health care workers and First Nations communities will start to have access to booster shots.<\/p>\n<p>Local pharmacist Charles Beaver has been administering third doses to immune-suppressed people for several weeks now. We spoke to him about boosters, the continuing rollout of first and second doses, and how long we might be waiting for approval of a COVID-19 vaccine for kids. Beaver started off breaking down the difference between the third doses he\u2019s now administering at the Corner Drug, and the booster shots which will be coming online in the coming weeks.\u00a0<em>Listen to Tantramar Report for the full interview.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Town of Sackville budget 2022: increased spending in operations<\/h2>\n<p>Councillors spent three hours going through the operating and capital budgets for both the town and the water utility this past Monday. This coming Monday, council will take another look at the budget, to get their questions answered by town treasurer Michael Beal. Brian Neilson and Jon McKiel alerted club regulars this week that work will begin on Monday for a new roof for the historic campus building.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight in the Brunton Auditorium, you can catch an\u00a0<strong>award-winning performance by violinist Isabelle Perron<\/strong>\u00a0and pianist Todd Yaniw. Perron was the second place winner of the 2021 Eckhardt-Grammatt\u00e9 music competition. She performs tonight at 7:30pm.
