Mitton weighs in on the performance of the federal Green party in New Brunswick, including the curious choice of candidate for the Beaus\u00e9jour riding, as well as the continuing struggle for solutions to the health care staffing crisis. She also touches on the current COVID testing crunch, calling it a \u201cleadership issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another resident of the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville has died with COVID-19<\/strong>. Helen Melita Lawrence passed away on Tuesday due to COVID at the age of 97. Condolences and memories can be shared at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jonesfuneralhome.ca\/obituaries\/156774\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an online memorial at jonesfuneralhome.ca<\/a>. Lawrence was the 11th person to die from COVID-19 in New Brunswick this month.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/another-resident-of-the-drew-nursing-home-has-died-with-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More on how you can help the Drew here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sackvillians will have a chance to hear\u00a0<strong>Mi\u2019kmaw Ceremonial Elder William Nevin speak tonight<\/strong>\u00a0at Convocation Hall. Elder Nevin is a cultural counsellor, Sundance Chief, Traditional Ceremonial Elder, and Knowledge Keeper. He has been instrumental in bringing back the sacred Sundance ceremony to the Mi\u2019kmaw people. His talk, called Then and Now,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mta.ca\/presidents-speakers-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">starts at 6:30pm at Convocation Hall<\/a>. All are welcome, but masks and proof of vaccination are required.<\/p>\n<p>As 22 new cases were announced in Zone 1, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gnb.ca\/content\/gnb\/en\/corporate\/promo\/covid-19\/potential_public_exposure.html#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">series of new potential exposure locations\u00a0<\/a>went up on the provincial website, with Rose\u2019s Independent Grocer in Sackville listed. A\u00a0<strong>potential public exposure took place at Rose\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0on Sunday September 19th, between 2pm and 4pm. Anyone who is unvaccinated and frequented Rose\u2019s at that time is being asked to book a test immediately. Anyone fully vaccinated is asked to simply monitor for symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Sackville assessment centre will have extended hours<\/strong>\u00a0this week, opening for 10 hours today and Friday. Horizon says staff are performing more than 100 swabs per day, but there is still a high demand for testing in Sackville. At a news conference Tuesday Premier Blaine Higgs indicated that rapid tests might be available in school communities within weeks. For more click here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registering to travel into New Brunswick<\/strong>\u00a0has moved from an email system\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gnb.ca\/content\/gnb\/en\/corporate\/promo\/covid-19\/travel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to a web-based application<\/a>. The registration form that was previously required to be emailed as a PDF document has been replaced as of Monday, and now people registering online can get a permanent multi-trip registration if they are fully vaccinated.
