{"id":60779,"date":"2021-09-15T07:10:44","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T11:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=60779"},"modified":"2021-09-28T00:47:40","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T04:47:40","slug":"bc-no-longer-in-state-of-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/bc-no-longer-in-state-of-emergency\/","title":{"rendered":"BC no longer in state of emergency due to wildfires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">British Columbia ended the provincial state of emergency in response to wildfires at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The province has returned to a standard emergency response, but a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.gov.bc.ca\/releases\/2021PSSG0056-001784\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">government press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cautioned that \u201cthe wildfire season is not over [and] it is vital that the public remain prepared and follow the continued direction of local authorities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government measure ensured a coordinated response to wildfire activity, with firefighters from across the country, as well as from Mexico and Australia assisting BC personnel. At the height of the fire season in the hottest months, 3,631 firefighting staff were deployed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some facts regarding the 2021 fire season in British Columbia to date include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The state of emergency was declared by the Province on July 20 and extended three times, for a combined total of 57 days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">32,000 people were displaced, with 19,807 people registering for Emergency Support Services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Firefighters from around the province, Canada,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as well as from Mexico and Australia worked to contain and put out blazes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Red Cross is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/donate.redcross.ca\/page\/85877\/donate\/1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">accepting donations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for British Columbians impacted by wildfires.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of Tuesday, Sept. 14, the BC Wildfire Dashboard reported that in the Coastal Fire Centre region there were 14 total fires burning, with eight being held and six under control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To report a wildfire or open burning violation, call *5555 on a cellphone or 1 800 663-5555 toll-free.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British Columbia ended the provincial state of emergency in response to wildfires at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
