{"id":59418,"date":"2021-09-06T10:13:43","date_gmt":"2021-09-06T14:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=59418"},"modified":"2021-09-06T10:13:43","modified_gmt":"2021-09-06T14:13:43","slug":"campaign-2021-election-vandalism-in-north-island-powell-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/campaign-2021-election-vandalism-in-north-island-powell-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign 2021: Election vandalism in North Island-Powell River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Large numbers of election campaign signs have been stolen or vandalized the riding of in North Island-Powell River.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cTwo dozen Liberal signs were either knocked over, stolen, or vandalized over 3 days of putting them up in Campbell River and Comox,\" Liberal Campaign Manager David Somerville reported.<\/p>\n<p>The NDP reported that there's been more damage and theft of signs compared to past election seasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cOur campaign has definitely experienced more damaged and stolen signs this year than in previous campaigns,\u201d emailed Rachel Blaney, the NDP candidate and incumbent MP for this riding. \u201cIt's disappointing and disrespectful to the volunteers who put their time and effort into putting up signs at election time, and to our democratic process. Politics can be divisive, but these signs, are the expressions of our neighbours. After the election we all need to live and work together. Photo courtesy of Liberal campaign office North Island -Powell River.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\">Over the weekend, CKTZ News also reached out to the Conservative and Green and Marxist Leninist parties, to see how their campaigns were affected.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">As of Sunday morning, when this story was filed, the only other response came from the Marxist Leninist Party of Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cWe don't have signs, so we are not directly affected.
