{"id":58995,"date":"2021-09-09T17:37:14","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T21:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=58995"},"modified":"2021-09-09T17:37:59","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T21:37:59","slug":"another-alleged-municipal-ethics-breach-by-calumet-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/another-alleged-municipal-ethics-breach-by-calumet-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"Another alleged municipal ethics breach by Calumet mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>L\u2019\u00cele-du-Grand-Calumet Mayor Serge Newberry has received another citation from Quebec\u2019s Municipal Commission (CMQ) regarding an alleged incident on June 16 of this year.<\/p>\n<p>The citation, which is available on the CMQ\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"spip_out\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cmq.gouv.qc.ca\/contentFiles\/files\/citations\/Citation%20-%20Serge%20Newberry.pdf\" rel=\"external\">website<\/a>, accuses Newberry of disrespectful conduct towards the municipality\u2019s director general, in violation of the Municipal Code of Ethics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn or around June 16, 2021, he disrespected the Director general of the Municipality by making gestures or making vexatious, humiliating or intimidating remarks, thus contravening article 10.2 of the Code,\u201d it states (translated from French).<\/p>\n<p>Newberry declined to comment on the allegations to CHIP 101.9, saying that he would wait until all the information was made public and a ruling was given by the commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt won\u2019t be long that it will be out in the open and people can make up their own mind, you know, but it\u2019s easy to just slap on some more mud,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-58995-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Clip-Serge-Newberry-ethics-allegations.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Clip-Serge-Newberry-ethics-allegations.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Clip-Serge-Newberry-ethics-allegations.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"spip_site\" href=\"http:\/\/chipfm.com\/Serge-Newberry-cited-in-ethics-before-the-Commission-municipale-du-Quebec\" rel=\"external\">Late last year<\/a>, Newberry received a citation alleging other disrespectful behaviour towards councillors and the former director general. The allegations date as far back as 2017 and include disrespectful remarks, making a sexual insinuation about a councillor and a citizen, and showing up unannounced at the homes of two councillors and making disrespectful comments. The full list is\u00a0<a class=\"spip_out\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cmq.gouv.qc.ca\/contentFiles\/files\/citations\/Newberry%2C%20Serge%20-%20Citation_amend%C3%A9e.pdf\" rel=\"external\">available here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Originally, he was slated to appear in early September but now will appear between Oct. 12 and 15, and could have another appearance on Oct. 18, according to a revised schedule on the CMQ\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>Newberry said that he didn\u2019t know when the commission would make a ruling but noted that it would probably be issued before electors head to the polls in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsually, they try to get it before the elections you know, I guess, that\u2019s the rush for them there, but it\u2019s hard to say,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of this term, the municipality has had seven different directors general: Lisa Boisvert, Paul Langlois, Sabrina Larivi\u00e8re, Tracey H\u00e9rault Cameron, Sylvain B\u00e9gin, Mario Boyer and the current director, \u00c9laine D\u00e9ry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>L\u2019\u00cele-du-Grand-Calumet Mayor Serge Newberry has received another citation from Quebec\u2019s Municipal Commission (CMQ) regarding an alleged incident on June 16 of this year.
