{"id":58415,"date":"2021-09-01T14:08:14","date_gmt":"2021-09-01T18:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=58415"},"modified":"2021-09-01T14:08:14","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T18:08:14","slug":"doctors-elected-officials-continue-calls-for-health-care-decentralization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/doctors-elected-officials-continue-calls-for-health-care-decentralization\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctors, elected officials continue calls for health care decentralization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of Quebec doctors for decentralization of the health system (RQMDSS) held a press conference today alongside mayors and elected officials from across the province, once again voicing their frustration with the fallout of Bill 10.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as the \u201cBarrette reforms\u201d after the Liberal health minister at the time, Ga\u00e9tan Barrette, the 2015 law centralized administration of Quebec\u2019s health care services, reducing the autonomy of regional hospitals and clinics like those in Pontiac.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main speakers during the event was Serge P\u00e9loquin, mayor of Sorel-Tracy, and he spoke about the difficulties that centralization have brought to his region. His was one of the more than 50 municipalities that have signed on to a petition asking the government to give some control back to local administrators.<\/p>\n<p>MRC Pontiac Warden Jane Toller was another elected official that spoke during the conference, and relayed some of the issues facing the region.
