{"id":55837,"date":"2021-08-10T07:08:56","date_gmt":"2021-08-10T11:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=55837"},"modified":"2021-10-06T00:36:04","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T04:36:04","slug":"astor-theatre-schedule-filling-up-as-health-restrictions-ease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/astor-theatre-schedule-filling-up-as-health-restrictions-ease\/","title":{"rendered":"Astor Theatre schedule filling up as health restrictions ease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Astor Theatre is returning to life as COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift.<\/p>\n<p>The hub of arts in Liverpool has been closed for most of the pandemic, forcing the cancellation or postponement of theatre productions, movies, arts events and the bi-annual Liverpool International Theatre Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Interim General Manager Jean Robinson-Dexter says convincing people it is safe to leave their homes and enjoy group activities could be a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think people, it\u2019s a bit of, they\u2019re torn. They want to come back, they want to see a movie, they want to sit in a theatre, and that\u2019s the reaction that everybody has when they come back in. it\u2019s like they\u2019re so happy to be here again. Photo by Ed Halverson.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Astor Theatre has been able to host some events through COVID-19 such as the Queens County Music Festival, but in a very limited capacity.<\/p>\n<p>In the past couple of weeks, the Astor has begun to expand their offerings, including, a month-long exhibit by local artist Melissa Labrador and has held auditions for an upcoming performance by the Winds of Change theatre group.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson-Dexter says unfortunately some of the equipment needed to project films was damaged in a power outage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA piece of the projector broke and just with the technician being in another province, we had to wait for him to be able to come in and fix it once we got the part,\u201d Robinson-Dexter. \u201cSo, we\u2019re just in the last steps of getting that up and running again and we\u2019ll be able to start movies again sometime in the next few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More information on upcoming events can be found on the Astor Theatre website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-mail:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:edhalversonnews@gmail.com\">edhalversonnews@gmail.com<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Twitter: @edwardhalverson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>To listen to the broadcast of this story, press play below.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Astor Theatre is returning to life as COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift.
