{"id":55754,"date":"2021-08-09T10:36:55","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T14:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=55754"},"modified":"2021-08-09T10:36:55","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T14:36:55","slug":"tantramar-report-cumberland-ndp-candidate-lauren-skabar-council-agenda-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/tantramar-report-cumberland-ndp-candidate-lauren-skabar-council-agenda-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"Tantramar Report: Cumberland NDP candidate Lauren Skabar, council agenda preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monday on Tantramar Report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bruce Wark continues his coverage of the candidates vying for the seat representing Cumberland North in the Nova Scotia legislature.\u00a0 Today, Wark talks with one of the youngest candidates in the election,\u00a0<strong>NDP candidate Lauren Skabar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<strong>Sackville man charged with multiple assaults<\/strong>\u00a0was back in a Moncton courtroom by video link on Thursday.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/plea-on-police-assault-bumped-to-sep-9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colt LeBlanc was scheduled to plea<\/a>\u00a0on charges of assaulting a police officer, but his lawyer,\u00a0 Michel Des Neiges told the court that full disclosure had not been received from the crown on the case. LeBlanc will be back to enter a plea on September 9.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chmafm.com\/welcome\/sackville-council-agenda-preview-skateboards-natural-assets-lobbying-the-provincial-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Sackville town council<\/strong>\u00a0meets tonight\u00a0<\/a>for their regular monthly council meeting.\u00a0 Council will start off in camera at 6:15 to discuss a human resources item, and then at 7pm, the public meeting is scheduled to begin. A number of motions will be up for consideration, including a possibly contentious first reading of amendments to the town\u2019s Street Traffic By-law that would permit skateboards on public streets.<\/p>\n<p>The town\u2019s public works department is warning of\u00a0<strong>vehicle traffic delays along Main Street\u00a0<\/strong>by the Booster Pump beginning today and extending all week to Friday. The town says they are \u201cperforming much needed repair to a culvert in and around 197 Main Street.\u201d The area will be open to through traffic, but there could be delays.<\/p>\n<p>The Moncton region now has\u00a0<strong>56 active cases<\/strong>\u00a0of COVID-19, though still no hospitalizations.\u00a0 Another 16 new cases were reported on Sunday, stemming from the two previous days. The province now has 75 active cases of COVID-19.\u00a0 There is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gnb.ca\/content\/gnb\/en\/corporate\/promo\/covid-19\/potential_public_exposure.html#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long list of potential public exposure sites on the province\u2019s website<\/a>, including the Aboiteau Wharf Restaurant in Cap-Pel\u00e9 and the Sandbar restaurant in Shediac both on August 3, and a number of restaurants and bars in Moncton.<\/p>\n<p>And the province announced Friday it will now cover the<strong>\u00a0full tuition costs\u00a0<\/strong>for New Brunswickers who wish to become personal support workers or human services counsellors.\u00a0 Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder said the move is intended to address \u201cone of the province\u2019s most critical labour needs.\u201d\u00a0Those interest need to see an employment counsellor through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/workingnb.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WorkingNB<\/a>\u00a0and complete an approved employment action plan in order to qualify for the funding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday on Tantramar Report: Bruce Wark continues his coverage of the candidates vying for the seat representing Cumberland North in the Nova Scotia legislature.\u00a0 Today, Wark talks with one of the youngest candidates in the election,\u00a0NDP candidate Lauren Skabar.
