{"id":55439,"date":"2021-08-05T14:45:19","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T18:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=55439"},"modified":"2021-10-06T00:35:57","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T04:35:57","slug":"candidate-calls-for-region-to-lift-lawn-sign-ban-on-municipal-property","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/candidate-calls-for-region-to-lift-lawn-sign-ban-on-municipal-property\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidate calls for region to lift lawn sign ban on municipal property"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the people running to represent Queens in the provincial election says not allowing election lawn signs on municipal property puts some candidates at a disadvantage.<\/p>\n<p>NDP Candidate Mary Dahr says the Region of Queens has removed the signs she placed on municipal sites.<\/p>\n<p>Dahr approached the Region to ask if they would relax their rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were defending their rules and they police it very good but that\u2019s as far as they would go,\u201d said Dahr. \u201cJust defending their rules, they were not budging on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dahr is concerned the policy could exclude people from being involved in the electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody who\u2019s a minority, it\u2019s a barrier, it\u2019s not inclusive at all. Photo by Ed Halverson.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to Elections Nova Scotia, each municipality can determine whether or not lawn signs will be permitted on municipal property.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Darlene Norman says the Region of Queens has a long-standing policy of not allowing campaign signs on their lands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly believe that people in Queens County do not want to see election signs posted on public property.
