Wildfires continue to move through the province of British Columbia and, while most of the current fires are in the Kamloops and Cariboo area, the north has started to see fires pop up due to unprecedented high temperatures.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

CICK spoke with Casda Thomas from the Northwest Fire Centre (NWFC) and the BC Wildfire Service<\/span><\/a> in Smithers. Thomas updated listeners about what's happening around the northwest in regards to fires (as of July 13, there are 6 active fires in the northwest).<\/div>\n

CICK also spoke with Dr. Lori Daniels, from the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at University of British Columbia,<\/span><\/a> about climate patterns and technological advances to help prepare communities for fire prevention and best practices for evacuation. And Dr. Kira Hoffman, of the Bulkley Valley Research Centre,<\/span><\/a> spoke about informational services (online and otherwise) for first nation territories in the Northwest.<\/div>\n
