The Union of BC Municipalities grant will fund wildfire risk reduction activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo for Cortes Island this is about $180,000 of wildfire risk reduction,\u201d Shaun\u00a0Koopman<\/a>, SRD protective services coordinator, said in an interview with CKTZ.<\/p>\n The money will be used for renovations at the following locations:<\/p>\n About $60,000 is being allocated to renovations at Camp Homewood<\/a>\u2019s residential quarters and Quadra Island Bible Church<\/a> \u2014 both of which are designated as evacuation centres, should the need arise.<\/p>\n Full community assessment reports are to be prepared for the\u00a0Klahoose\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0We Wai Kai First Nations<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will be looking at all their critical infrastructure and community buildings. There is a template that you fill out for them and then submit that template to the province for further funding,\u201d said Koopman.<\/p>\n The rest of the grant funding goes to the Villages of\u00a0Gold River<\/a>,\u00a0Tahsis<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Zeballos<\/a>\u00a0as well as\u00a0Ehattesaht\/Chinehkint<\/a>,\u00a0Ka:\u2019yu:\u2019k\u2019t\u2019h\u2019\/Che:k:tles7et\u2019h\u2019<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mowachaht\/Muchalaht First Nations<\/a>.<\/p>\n A map showing Cortes and Quadra Island the locations that will be receiving renovations through the grant funding.
