Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec has announced partial rehabilitation work of the three turbine-generator units as well as some improvement work on the power station building at the Bryson power station. Work begins this spring and will continue until 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis work will allow Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec to fulfill its mission of generating electricity and ensuring the sustainability of its facilities,\u201d said Senior Director, Planning, Strategies and Expertise at Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, Roger Gosselin.<\/p>\n
The Bryson plant has three turbine-generator units. The first one was commissioned in 1925, the second in 1929 and the third in 1949. The role of the turbine is to transform the energy of the water into mechanical energy, so as to turn the alternator. The alternator, in turn, transforms mechanical energy into electrical energy. In the case of hydroelectric plants like Bryson\u2019s, a turbine-generator unit is the turbine and generator that work together.<\/p>\n
This work will help stimulate the economic development of the Pontiac. Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec is also committed to maximizing local spinoffs.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn consultation with stakeholders in the community, Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec will encourage the contractors selected and its employees to turn, as far as possible, to local goods, services and resources\u201d underlines the Community Relations Advisor with Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, Alain Paquette.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Mr. Paquette specifies that this desire applies, for example, to the purchase of sundries, to restaurant and catering services as well as accommodation such as fuel supply, equipment rental and employment of local labor. About 40 workers, on average, will work on the site over the next three years. The Warden of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller, was very satisfied with this announcement.<\/p>\n
