{"id":44736,"date":"2021-03-09T12:52:32","date_gmt":"2021-03-09T17:52:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=44736"},"modified":"2021-03-10T14:35:28","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T19:35:28","slug":"township-seeking-public-input-on-reconstruction-of-st-david-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/township-seeking-public-input-on-reconstruction-of-st-david-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Township seeking public input on reconstruction of St. David Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Township of Centre Wellington is seeking public input on four different design options for the reconstruction of St. David Street North, from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Baker, managing director of infrastructure services for the Township of Centre Wellington, said this has been on the townships radar for a number of years, and it's a council initiative that\u2019s approved through their budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re planning for our reconstruction in 2023, a full reconstruction, replacing the underground infrastructure, watermains, sewers, and then when we do that we also want to replace the road, the sidewalks, and so we really get an opportunity as we get into the design process to kind of reimagine, or reshape St. David Street,\u201d said Baker.<\/p>\n<p>Baker said they haven\u2019t quite pinned down when the reconstruction would start in 2023, but noted that it would be a full construction season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe township has budgeted $2.97 million for the construction in 2023, that amount excludes any grant funding that we might receive through the Ministry of Transportation's\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mto.gov.on.ca\/english\/highway-bridges\/connecting-links.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connecting Links program<\/a>, but that\u2019s the current budget for the project as it stands today,\u201d Baker said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the township will be applying for the grant funding this fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve utilized the grant in the past with the St. David Street bridge [and] that was significantly funded through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mto.gov.on.ca\/english\/highway-bridges\/connecting-links.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connecting Links program<\/a> as well, and really that\u2019s the objective here is [to] really inform our design, and so we can refine those cost estimates as well as finalize our design,\u201d Baker said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the township wants to work with their business partners to ensure that they\u2019re maintaining access to people\u2019s businesses at all times during construction.<\/p>\n<p>Baker said members of the public can see the four design options at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connectcw.ca\/re-shape-your-st-david-street\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.connectcw.ca<\/a>, which is currently open and will be kept open into April, then township staff will report back to council with a summary of the feedback in either late spring or early summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colin Baker, managing director of infrastructure services for the Township of Centre Wellington:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-44736-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Edited-Clip-CB.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Edited-Clip-CB.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Edited-Clip-CB.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Township of Centre Wellington is seeking public input on four different design options for the reconstruction of St. David Street North, from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue.
