{"id":44074,"date":"2021-03-05T16:18:14","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T21:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=44074"},"modified":"2021-03-05T16:18:14","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T21:18:14","slug":"nelson-enviro-group-saves-land-near-cottonwood-lake-from-certain-clearcut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/nelson-enviro-group-saves-land-near-cottonwood-lake-from-certain-clearcut\/","title":{"rendered":"Nelson enviro. group saves land near Cottonwood Lake from certain clearcut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It took 20 months, but the Cottonwood Lake Preservation Society has managed to save 49 hectares of land from being logged just south of Nelson, B.C.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, a private land logger with experience all over the province, in some pretty controversial logging plans, purchased three parcels of forest south of Nelson, one of which was above and around Cottonwood Lake \u2014 a popular spot for fishing, hiking and skating, and also home to all sorts of wildlife that relied on Cottonwood\u2019s mountainsides and wetlands, to live.<\/p>\n<p>The logger\u2019s plan? Cut, basically, all of it.<\/p>\n<p>The Preservation Society was formed, the public\u2019s awareness urgently raised, and thousands of volunteer hours expended in an effort to save at least some of the land around the lake, for future generations. And they did it.<\/p>\n<p>With an end-of-February deadline looming, the Cottonwood Lake Preservation Society raised $400,000 that will help purchase some of the land for us.
