{"id":37360,"date":"2021-02-05T13:17:52","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T18:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=37360"},"modified":"2021-02-08T16:06:44","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T21:06:44","slug":"fergus-aw-partners-up-with-mealshare-to-benefit-the-cw-food-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/fergus-aw-partners-up-with-mealshare-to-benefit-the-cw-food-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Fergus A&#038;W partners with Mealshare to benefit food bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Turn your dining out at the Fergus A&amp;W into helping out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwfoodbank.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centre Wellington (CW) Food Bank<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mealshare.ca\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mealshare<\/a>, a social enterprise that is on a mission to help end youth hunger, has secured a partnership with all the A&amp;W Canada locations across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Laird, community leader for Mealshare in Hamilton said the partnership between Mealshare and A&amp;W Canada has a goal of sharing 1.2 million meals to youth, per year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we stretch that across the 1,000 locations across the country, that including the Fergus location, we\u2019re looking to share about 1,200 out of the year, so, we\u2019re looking at about 100 meals a month, that will then transfer into meals given to your local CW Food Bank,\u201d Laird said.<\/p>\n<p>Laird stressed that even though the goal for A&amp;W Canada is 100 meals per month, it\u2019s only because it\u2019s their first year doing the partnership with Mealshare, but there is no cap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally, the opportunity is there for as many meals as the Fergus community wants to share with the CW Food Bank,\u201d Laird said.<\/p>\n<p>Laird said the partnership works in two ways, customers can visit the Fergus A&amp;W location and order a cheddar bacon uncle burger combo on a Monday, which turns into one meal for a youth in the Fergus community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then if you\u2019re not available on Monday, or if you do go on a Monday and the cheddar bacon uncle burger combo isn\u2019t your thing, you can order anything off the menu, and just say, \u2018make it a mealshare,\u2019 they just add [one] dollar to your bill, [and] that will also share a meal with your CW Food Bank,\u201d Laird said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, the way we allow our partners to receive their funds is [the] A&amp;W location in Fergus will report to our billing team, and then in turn, we then share [\u2026] [those] funds with your local CW Food Bank,\u201d Laird said.<\/p>\n<p>Fred Aleksandrowicz, managing director at the Centre Wellington (CW) Food Bank said he\u2019s feeling on top of the world about the partnership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen anytime anybody wants to support the people we deal with here, that to me is awesome,\u201d Aleksandrowicz said.<\/p>\n<p>Aleksandrowicz said in the first couple of months, he will use the funds and put them back into the community by buying gift cards from the Fergus A&amp;W, so families will be able to have a treat once in a while.<\/p>\n<p>He added that in the future his plan is to buy fruits and vegetables with the funds from Mealshare, as the majority of the donations he receives are non-perishables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fred Aleksandrowicz, managing director at the CW Food Bank:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-37360-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Edited-Clip-Fred.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Edited-Clip-Fred.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Edited-Clip-Fred.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turn your dining out at the Fergus A&amp;W into helping out the Centre Wellington (CW) Food Bank.
