{"id":36561,"date":"2021-02-03T12:23:30","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T17:23:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=36561"},"modified":"2021-02-03T13:13:11","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T18:13:11","slug":"wellington-county-reminds-residents-about-snowplow-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/wellington-county-reminds-residents-about-snowplow-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellington County reminds residents about snowplow safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Old Man Winter is still here which means residents are most likely to see snowplow operators out on the roadways, clearing snow and ice for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Rosso, manager of public works for the Township of Centre Wellington, said he doesn\u2019t encourage drivers passing a snowplow operator when out on the roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive yourself some time in the morning, leave a few minutes earlier, and keep back from plow trucks at least 50 metres because when you\u2019re approaching a plow truck in the winter, it\u2019s almost like a blizzard effect behind the truck, and that\u2019s due to the plowing that we\u2019re trying to achieve [by] getting the snow off the road,\u201d Rosso said.<\/p>\n<p>Rosso said that snowplow operators are also out just trying to make the roadways safer for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>He added that children should stay away from piles of snow in a cul-de-sac or a parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs inviting as they may look, tunneling into the piles to build forts may collapse, or using them as a toboggan hill can be dangerous as well, and it also makes it very difficult for plow operators to see the kids in these piles when we are out plowing or removing snow,\u201d Rosso stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Rosso said that if children are walking anywhere they should be using the sidewalks where possible, and wear reflective clothing, as that helps for all drivers concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there are no sidewalks, then they should be walking facing oncoming traffic, so they can see the traffic coming in their direction,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Rosso went on to explain how residents can help plow operators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would help us a great deal if residents would not park on the road during or after a snow storm, that allows us to get the roads cleared in a more efficient manner,\u201d Rosso said. \u201cAnd just another item, is no parking on the streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. any day during the months of November, December, January, February and March of any year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that no depositing of snow on the road is permitted by residents, it is illegal to do so, and falls under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/laws\/statute\/90h08\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Highway Traffic Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rob Rosso, manager of public works for the Township of Centre Wellington:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-36561-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Edited-Clip-RR.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Edited-Clip-RR.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Edited-Clip-RR.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Old Man Winter is still here which means residents are most likely to see snowplow operators out on the roadways, clearing snow and ice for drivers.
