Fairwinds Farm and Rescue is a working to save and support wildlife in the Eastern Townships community.<\/p>\n
Located in Potton, the farm is home to horses, alpacas, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, pigs, cats, dogs, ducks, goats, raccoons and even a Canadian goose.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a Canadian goose that lives with us, but he\u2019s wild but he won\u2019t leave. He hasn\u2019t left for three years, but he just loves it there. He thinks he\u2019s a duck,\u201d said Trevor Brunton, owner and operator of Fairwinds Farm and Rescue.<\/p>\n
Fairwinds has saved \"over 100 animals and is always ready to help when possible,\" the mission statement on their website states.<\/p>\n
The farm and rescue are located at Brunton\u2019s personal property, which has always been a dream of his since a young age. There are very few animal rescue facilities in the Eastern Townships, which is unusual in farm country. All animals are rescues and usually all are accepted, depending on space and available funding.<\/p>\n
\u201cRecently we got five baby raccoons,\u201d stated Brunton.<\/p>\n
The raccoons were found by a local citizen and then reported to Brunton.<\/p>\n
Once the animals have been rehabilitated, they are encouraged to return to the wild. But if they are unable to survive in the wild, they live out the rest of their lives on the farm. In some instances, such as the goose, animals come and go as they please. It is not unusual to see the animals inside Brunton\u2019s family home.<\/p>\n
Fairwinds Farm and Rescue can be found on Facebook and is always accepting of donations. Brunton noted that all proceeds go directly to help support the animals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just love animals,\u201d said Brunton with a smile.<\/p>\n
