{"id":29477,"date":"2020-12-23T13:56:12","date_gmt":"2020-12-23T18:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=29477"},"modified":"2021-03-15T15:40:43","modified_gmt":"2021-03-15T19:40:43","slug":"group-effort-in-saving-arthur-boys-leg-in-farming-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/group-effort-in-saving-arthur-boys-leg-in-farming-accident\/","title":{"rendered":"Group effort in saving Arthur boy&#8217;s leg in fall farming accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A family in Arthur is very grateful to all those involved for saving their son\u2019s leg and foot in a farming accident.<\/p>\n<p>Back in September 2020, at Shawridge Farms in Arthur, 15-year-old Wesley Weber was cleaning out a silo and got his leg caught in a grain conveyor.<\/p>\n<p>Wyatt Morrison, operations superintendent with Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service, spoke with the emergency medical services (EMS) crew on the scene that day, and they said his lower leg was very badly injured.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn first evaluation, they (EMS) assumed \u2014 I believe the wording was 'partially amputated or severely damaged [\u2026] from the knee down,'\u201d Morrison said.<\/p>\n<p>Wesley\u2019s father, Darcy Weber, said the employees at Shawridge were able to free his leg before first responders arrived, but there was a fear that he was going to lose it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re incredibly grateful for, that they were able to save his leg and his foot,\u201d Darcy said. \u00a0\u201cA lot of accidents like this involve the loss of a foot, or a leg.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brad Bodz, platoon captain with the Wellington North Fire Service in Arthur who was on the scene, said the employees reacted perfectly when the accident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were able to get on the horn to 911 as quick as possible, and like I said, we (Fire Service) were there after OPP, and EMS, and they had a lot of good things going before we got there,\u201d Bodz said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Bodz said it was a challenging rescue to get Wesley out and down from the grain silo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was definitely tricky, there was a lot of tight spaces, but with the help of OPP, EMS, and the employees [\u2026] it worked like a well-oiled machine, and I was surprised at how efficiently it worked, and how quickly we were able to get him out of there,\u201d Bodz said.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Wesley celebrates his 16th birthday and his father, Darcy, said at this point, his recovery is going really well and he\u2019s coping well with the accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think his faith has pulled him through in a lot of ways, I believe that God is good, and the importance of positivity,\u201d Darcy said.<\/p>\n<p>Wesley credits Shawridge Farms employee, Larry, for keeping him calm and comfortable the entire time of the accident, and even after first responders arrived.<\/p>\n<p>He spent six weeks and two days at McMaster Hospital in Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p>Darcy said Wesley had a muscle removed from his back to put on the leg that he injured, which was followed by a bunch of skin grafts.<\/p>\n<p>Wesley is currently on crutches, as he broke his ankle during the accident and it's still healing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Darcy Weber, Wesley's father:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-29477-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Edited-Clip-Darcy.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Edited-Clip-Darcy.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Edited-Clip-Darcy.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A family in Arthur is very grateful to all those involved for saving their son\u2019s leg and foot in a farming accident.
