The yet-to-be named ship is the second\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/e-ferries\/\">hybrid electric\u00a0<\/a>destined for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/campbell-river\/\">Campbell River<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/quadra-island\/\">Quadra Island<\/a>\u00a0route.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/bc-ferries\/\">BC Ferries<\/a>\u00a0spokesperson\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/deborah-marshall\/\">Deborah Marshall<\/a>\u00a0explained, \u201cWe\u2019ve got two vessels right now. One is sailing between Texada and Powell River. The other one is on the Port McNeill-Alert Bay-Sointula run. The third and fourth vessels will sail the Campbell River \u2013 Quadra run. Nanaimo Harbour \u2013 Gabriola for the fifth and sixth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Powell River Queen, which currently services Campbell River\/Quadra, will be replaced by two Hybrid electric ferries in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>This will increase BC Ferries capacity from 59 to 94 vehicles per hour, and hopefully eliminate some of those long summer ferry line-ups that Quadra and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cortescurrents.ca\/tag\/cortes-island\/\">Cortes residents<\/a>\u00a0are currently experiencing during the summers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Roy L Hales The fourth of BC Ferries Island Class ferry was\u00a0launched early Thursday morning,\u00a0at Damen Shipyards Galati, in Romania.
