{"id":26563,"date":"2020-12-10T12:36:14","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T17:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=26563"},"modified":"2020-12-10T14:20:51","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:20:51","slug":"university-of-sherbrooke-professor-and-researcher-investigates-symptoms-of-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/university-of-sherbrooke-professor-and-researcher-investigates-symptoms-of-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Sherbrooke professor researches distinctive symptoms of COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A University of Sherbrooke professor has published his recent research on COVID-19 and found that the virus presents some distinctive symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Alex Carignan is a medical microbiologist and infectious disease consultant in Sherbrooke as well as a professor and researcher at the University of Sherbrooke.<\/p>\n<p>Carignan and his team conducted research to \u201cconfirm whether anosmia (loss of smell) and dysgeusia (alteration in taste) are specific symptoms among those who tested positive for COVID-19,\u201d stated Carignan.<\/p>\n<p>Their research shows that these two symptoms are among the most popular in patients. Loss of smell and taste are also the most distinctive to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAssociation between loss of smell and COVID-19 is so strong that if you\u2019re getting tested, and your test is negative, probably you should ask for a second test a few days later to confirm,\u201d said Carignan.<\/p>\n<p>The study concluded that these are two very strong indicators of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say, yeah, it is even more frequent then fever, and cough, shortness of breath,\u201d added Carignan.<\/p>\n<p>If he were to continue the study further, Dr. Carignan mentioned that he would want to ask the patients how the symptoms and COVID-19, in general, impacted the quality of their life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is Dr. Alex Carignan speaking with CIDI:<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A University of Sherbrooke professor has published his recent research on COVID-19 and found that the virus presents some distinctive symptoms.
