{"id":23548,"date":"2020-11-27T11:06:12","date_gmt":"2020-11-27T16:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=23548"},"modified":"2020-11-27T13:02:17","modified_gmt":"2020-11-27T18:02:17","slug":"cw-food-bank-thrives-during-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/cw-food-bank-thrives-during-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre Wellington Food Bank thrives during COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre Wellington (CW) Food Bank isn\u2019t letting the COVID-19 pandemic slow them down.<\/p>\n<p>Fred Aleksandrowicz, managing director at the CW Food Bank, said they are still helping as many people as they did this time last year.<\/p>\n<p>He said the food bank is currently into food rescue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the grocers in this community, I\u2019m just going to give you one example, and that\u2019s Walmart, simply because we get a lot from Walmart,\u201d Aleksandrowicz said. \u201cThey would have thrown out 4,000 pounds of food on average, a week, and we get that every week just from Walmart. And it\u2019s a variety of meats, of vegetable, fruits, canned products, breads, [and the list goes on].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aleksandrowicz said he hasn\u2019t had to purchase milk or eggs for the CW Food Bank in roughly seven months.<\/p>\n<p>He said people out there are thinking of others and he told The Grand 101.1 what really touches his heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs when somebody comes in here and I\u2019ve never seen a donor, whether it\u2019s a food item, whether it\u2019s dollars, these are new donors, so they\u2019re aware of what\u2019s going on, and they\u2019re caring, and they\u2019re worried about others who may need or rely on, guess what, an extra helping hand,\u201d Aleksandrowicz said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he\u2019s seen an uptick in financial and food donations this year.<\/p>\n<p>He also told The Grand 101.1 what the CW Food Bank just received, that will go a long way in helping out the organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA brand new, ready for this, 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 refrigerated van, so I was able to successfully write a grant application, which I will brag about this, it\u2019s the twelfth one in a row, $40,000 from the Walmart corporation. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>He added that the CW Food Bank received $18,000 for refrigerating the van from a couple of local families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fred Aleksandrowicz, managing director at the CW Food Bank:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-23548-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Edited-Food-Bank-Clip.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Edited-Food-Bank-Clip.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Edited-Food-Bank-Clip.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre Wellington (CW) Food Bank isn\u2019t letting the COVID-19 pandemic slow them down.
