The Municipality of North Cowichan, on Vancouver Island,\u00a0 has decided to appeal a BC Supreme Court ruling that ordered it to reconsider a racetrack proposal.\u00a0 Vancouver Island Motorsports Circuit forced the judicial review after council turned down its proposal to build a second track, on a property adjacent to the one it currently operates.\u00a0 It argued council's decision was arbitrary and without explanation.\u00a0 The Supreme Court agreed.\u00a0 It ordered the municipality to reconsider the company's development permit application.\u00a0 North Cowichan Mayor Al Siebring says council does not want to do that.\u00a0 Siebring would not discuss the legal argument the municipality plans to use in its appeal.\u00a0 He will only say the issue continues to divide the community.<\/p>\n

Siebring expects the debate will die down as the community waits for another court decision, but he expects it will ramp up again, when the BC Court of Appeal makes its ruling.\u00a0 No date has been set for the appeal hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
