In a picturesque lake town, short-term rentals are inevitable. They can be a good way for home owners to earn an income, while helping to promote tourism in a town with few hotels. But on the downside, short term rentals bring a lot of noise and disorder to residential areas.<\/p>\n
Over the last few years, noise complaints have arose from Brome Lake residents concerned about vacation rentals. There have also been complaints of parties going into the morning hours which is a concern for the elderly population of Brome Lake. The town council confirmed that it is looking into the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have informed the population of our desire to better supervise the popular Airbnbs,\u201d said Mayor of Brome Lake Richard Burcombe.<\/p>\n
The Government of Quebec is working on a provincial bylaw regarding primary residences being used as short-term vacation rentals. The town is awaiting the provincial laws to be drafted, but in the meantime, there will be an unofficial public consultation.<\/p>\n
